Review | Gamesir g8 plus Game Controller

FOREWORD

We found a gamepad brand, Gamesir, that was popular and widely searched for in countries like Brazil and the US. At the same time, we were looking for an alternative to the backbone one, trying to find a grip that would be suitable for gripping a cell phone, compatible with PC and mobile games, and offer a good price/performance ratio. We found the Gamesir G8 and G8 plus, and since the G8 Plus is compatible with a wide range of systems, we purchased one for testing.

We do not make any recommendation here, the purpose of this article is only to make public some of the styles of testing in our company, and to analyze the basic use of these gamepads, so that you can make the right choice for yourself!

At the same time, this article will compare the Gamesir G8 plus with the BSP-D11 mentioned in the previous blog, trying to make it easier for you to understand.

About Gamesir G8 plus

Weight

This gamepad's weighting is more reasonable and closer to the metrics of professional grips.

However, for some specific poses when playing, it may tend to slip out of your hand due to its higher weight and shape. But this does not cause a big deal.

Keys

For the Android mapping mode, compared to the BSP-D11, the back key on the Gamesir G8 plus cannot be mapped, instead, it is replaced by the '+' and '-' buttons on the top of the front of the joystick, which can be mapped but are harder to reach in games, so it may be a little bit not so good for some games!

Of course, if you're willing to set up key groups, you can also solve this problem to get a good gaming experience.

Vibration

Compared to the BSP-D11, the vibration of the Gamesir G8 Plus is very stable and comfortable.

Test Game Cases

APEX (steam, streaming)

We also avoided using Steam Link as a streaming medium because of its significant latency.

Therefore, we installed Moonlight as the streaming medium on our phone and logged into the GEFORCE EXPERIENCE account and settings on our computer (non-NVIDIA users can install Sunshine on their computers) to pair with Moonlight, and then we can complete the streaming from the computer to the phone.
NVIDIA settings are as follows: click 'Settings', enter the 'SHEILD' interface, turn on 'gamestream', and add apex at the bottom. Then you can directly open the corresponding game on your phone's moonlight to play.

After completing the streaming steps, make sure the Gamesir G8 Plus is in Android or iOS mode, and then you can play the Apex, of course, any game on your computer that natively supports the gamepad can be played on the Gamesir G8 Plus.

During gameplay, the Gamesir G8 Plus exhibits a comfortable vibration function and a smooth joystick.

League Of Legends: Wild Rift (android, game installed inside the phone)

First, we downloaded the Gamesir app on our phone.

We made sure the Gamesir G8 Plus was in G-touch mode and connected our phone to the Gamesir G8 Plus by Bluetooth.

After launching the Gamesir app on our phone, we started Wild Rift, pressed the hover window of the Gamesir app on the screen, completed the mapping settings on our phone, saved the preset, and applied it.

A touchscreen is still required for the main page of the game

A very small number of character moves require manual aiming, which may still require touchscreen use

As mentioned above, the backkey of the Gamesir G8 plus is not mappable, instead it's replaced by the '+' and '-' keys on the top front of the joystick, which are mappable but harder to reach, and this caused us some problems!

But this problem can be solved by setting up the key group mapping.

Call of Duty Mobile

This time we tried to play Call of Duty Mobile with Gamesir G8 Plus on our iOS phone. And since the controller can connect directly to iOS, and the game already supports the controller, no mapping is needed to play it.

However, we are still seeing questions about Call of Duty Mobile on Reddit, and the main problem is that people tend to get the wrong mode of the joystick, especially Android users. To play the game on an Android phone, you should put the Gamesir G8 Plus into Android mode, not G-TOUCH mode, as the game doesn't require mapping.

Mode and Description

Games installed on your phone

First, download the Gamesir app on your phone.

Ensure that the Gamesir G8 Plus is in the right mode and connects the phone to the gamepad by Bluetooth.

If your game is supported by G-TOUCH mode, Launch the Gamesir app on your phone, start the game, press the hover window of the Gamesir app on the screen, complete the mapping on your phone, save the preset and apply it. Then you can play the game.

Streaming computer games

It is recommended to install Moonlight as the streaming medium on your phone and log in to your NVIDIA account and settings on your computer (if your configuration does not contain NVIDIA, you can install Sunshine on your computers) to connect it with Moonlight, and then you can complete the streaming from your computer to your phone.

NVIDIA's specific settings are as follows: click 'Settings', enter the 'Sheild' interface, turn on 'gamestream', add the game you want to play at the bottom, and then you can directly launch them on your phone's moonlight to play.

After completing the streaming steps, make sure the Gamesir G8 Plus is in Android mode or iOS mode, not G-TOUCH mode then you can play the game, of course, games that are natively adapted to the controller on the computer can be played with Gamesir G8 plus.

Streaming and mapping of PC games

If the game you want to play is not compatible with the game controller, you can still install joyToKey and other software on your computer to complete the mapping, to play games such as League Of Legends.
